HELP FUND OUR PET FOOD BANKS

Dorset Dogs CIC is incorporated as a social enterprise under registration number 13741228.

Dear friends,

We are a community fundraiser for Merlin's Pet Food Banks for Dorset Dogs CIC registered not-for-profit.

The Pet Food Banks assist individuals and families who are struggling to feed their pets due to the current cost-of-living crisis. People are feeding their pets before themselves and we aim to ease this harsh reality. No-one wants to make the devastating decision to give up their pet to a rescue because they can no longer afford to feed them, but sadly this is what some people are facing.

According to the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) survey of more than 60 animal shelters across England, 92% of shelters have seen an increase in people wanting to surrender a dog compared to pre- pandemic levels, and 88% saw an increase in people wanting to surrender cats.

Pets are family, and we want to help keep families together.

Dorset Dogs also aims to raise awareness of the importance of pets and dogs to the wellbeing of humans. The physical but also the mental health benefits of owning a pet. Many pets are a lifeline for their humans and an emotional support aid. We provide education on the needs of pets - both behaviour and wellness - our founder, Nicky Crowe, is an Animal Behaviourist. Dorset Dogs events showcase the benefits of scent work, first aid and training to help dogs and humans.

“Helping dogs reclaim their nose work is a wonderful way to promote dog wellness and beat boredom. Our sniff ’n find and search zones help to awaken their natural instinct and tire dogs out.”

“Recognising the symbiotic link between humans and dog helps improve communication and wellness between dog and their owner. The impact of stress and emotional thoughts which are stuck within the human have a direct impact on the dog. We need to help the human to help the dog”

Other things we do:

Many of the dogs we help to integrate back into the community are rescues from Romania, Croatia and Greece and other areas of the world. And we help our lockdown pups and dogs who are over-socialised or hyperactive and struggling with doggie social cues.

We offer Dog Socials, First Aid courses, Dog Body Language courses, Behaviour Clinics, Community Clean Ups, Stress Free Meet-Ups for dogs who cannot cope in the community, Recall Classes and Empathy Circles and so much more…

A strong part of our mission is to keep our Dorset - Dog Friendly and grow the support of local #dogfriendly businesses, dog professionals and dog parents. To bring together our community in unity and to resolve any areas of conflict.
